One of my favorite Monty Python sketches is the Dirty Hungarian Phrasebook:
(I also quite enjoy Saturday Night Live's "I would like... to feed your fingertips... to the wolverines" sketch, which opened the series' first episode in 1975, and seems like it might have been inspired by the Python sketch.)
So I was quite amused to learn of the existence of English As She
Is Spoke, a real-world English phrasebook from 1883 with
hilariously inaccurate translations, including probably my favorite, "To
craunch a marmoset".
